Perks before benefits? In the corporate world workplace culture is known to attract and retain talent. It’s linked to employee happiness, engagement and productivity. But what is it? On the surface culture manifests as how a company look and feels— often associated with workspace design and attire. Suits, slacks or jeans; offices, cubicles or standing desks; water cooler or espresso machine. Recently critics have pointed to the replacement of real benefits with low-cost “millennial perks”. As contract work becomes more commonplace, we must work to ensure we have access to the real benefits—both formal and informal—of working in a great culture. That is, working towards a shared goal backed by the security, support and respect of invested employers.
